Overheard Conversation #5012

This conversation is loosely translated from Italian.

Old man 1: I get up every morning and look in the mirror. I feel so old.
Old man 2: You don’t look that old.
Old man 1: Yeah?
Old man 2: I get up in the morning I don’t look in the mirror. So I don’t feel old.
Old man 1: Really?

Pause

Old man 1: So how do you shave in the morning?

Short Routes

During my travels today in Brunswick I discovered what is potentially the shortest bus route in the state.

The service is the 509 and runs at a 20 minute frequency.

Why the service hasn’t been incorporated into the 508 or 503 that run alongside it is totally beyond me.

Work Choices

Hello, I’m back from my (in)voluntary hiatus.

While I was off the Internet tubes I was trying to think of something that would make this blog and hence my own life a little bit more interesting.

I think I’ve come up with the answer: reality blogging. I mean this blog is already interesting but I want to make it interesting-er.

So here is the deal: I have this problem with my work contract for El Gringo Slave Labour and Cat Killing Emporium. There was supposed to be an appraisal done on my 1337 work skilz in the first week of November. So far nothing has happened. No dates penciled in; nothing. What makes it worse is my contract runs out in two weeks time. I’m getting a bit worried because this could well mean the chop.

Here is the part, my friends where you come in…

Should I:

a) Point out this gross oversight to the office overlords.
b) Wait until the contract runs out and sneak out the back door.
c) Continue working there after the contract runs out - like there is nothing wrong.
d) Other.

There you have it. My life is in your hands. Vote in comments.

Borat

Saw Borat last night. Not a bad movie. I did feel that leading up to the Australian release it was slightly over hyped but nevertheless there was something in it for everybody.

Oh and by the way, the woman in the video playing the keytar is Belinda Bedekovic reportedly one of the worlds fastest keyboard players. Linky

Web Developments

Sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve been heavily involved with two web development projects at the moment. Anyway there is nothing new happening at the moment.

One is a side project through my previously mentioned legitimate business operation and the other is accessibility and standards testing project.

The accessibility project is fairly complicated as it is a rebuild of an existing site. Meaning that older code has to be rewritten to make it comply with modern web standards.

I’m planning a trip to a regional town in the near future (plus I’ve got a followup about the last trip in my drafts).

Keep It

You know what?

Connex and Yarra Trams can keep running our transportation system. They are doing a good job.

If the control of the system was handed back to the state government you can assume that it’ll fall into a worse state. Both the media and PUTA are both blowing the whole issue out of proportion. In fact, PTUA don’t seem to offer any real solution other than throw more trains at it and everything will be ok. It’s not Connex or YT’s fault if they can’t keep up with the demand.

The fact is both Liberal and Labour have a track record of mismanagement of internal departments causing them to overspend and not really improve the overall quality of life for Victorians. This and the Liberals selling state owned assets drove the privatization of the system almost 10 years ago. Labour aren’t any better; they just renewed YT and Connex’s contracts.

A state controlled transportation system would also be more susceptible to policy change meaning that a proposal or promise made one week can be scrapped the next.

Connex and Yarra are in the business of keeping customers happy because at the end of the day happy customers = > patronage = > profit. It is in their best interest that the system be trim, efficient and on time. However, I do believe that both are slow to react to customer needs (read: three car trains on weekends).

I don’t mind if they get rewarded for good performance just as long as drivers and operational staff get rewarded as well.

Discuss.

Election Promises

His Steveness. Taken from the FNT Foto Archive.

Election season is now coming up and the pollies are putting out like two bit whores. I don’t know which one to believe more; both seem to be upping the stakes with their promises but nothing they are saying is striking a chord for me.

Public Transportation and Water seem to be the big issues yet there is no mention about spending on education or healthcare.

Most people suggest to this day that Kennett was the devil. Bracks seems to hide his horns well. Ted Baillieu looks like he may well being another Joan Kirner.

I think I may ride a donkey into this next election.

Can’t hear shit

For whatever reason the speakers on my laptop have stopped working.

I know I need to take it in for service either way (the power socket is busted) but I don’t want to be without my laptop and p0rn for an extended period of time.
